Cypress Country, Alta. (Rural Roots Canada) – Cypress County has received $222,000 to study opportunities for processing agricultural products locally and develop a workforce strategy aimed at strengthening the region’s agrifood sector.
The funding comes through the Canada-Alberta Workforce Resilience Initiative and is intended to help communities respond to changing trade conditions and tariff pressures.
The county will work with producers, industry groups, educational institutions and municipal partners to examine how tariffs are affecting local crops and beef production while identifying opportunities to process more agricultural products within the region.

Mayor Dan Hamilton says agriculture is a cornerstone of the county’s economy and the funding will help the municipality prepare for changing market conditions while creating new opportunities for producers and local businesses.
The project will include producer engagement, market analysis, infrastructure assessments and a review of processing technologies and supply chains to identify opportunities for local agri-food processing and market diversification.
Funding for the initiative is provided in part by the federal government through the Canada-Alberta Workforce Tariff Response.
